I am a strategic business consultant with over 25 years experience in product innovation, business development and marketing in a range of industries including fintech, insuretech, telecommunications and ecommerce.   • Overview: Create an accessible consumer warranty product that can aggregate all a customers ‘connected’ electronics.

    Problem: Customers have many electronics devices in their homes with no consolidated protection should anything go wrong. This is never covered by house insurance anthers is no catastrophic loss. Warranty is a very traditional industry and this was the product to solve that.

    The work: Deep customer research to validate the premise. Research with risk and underwriting professionals to accurately price the solution. Hire a team of professionals to design and build the solution. Design a service network to support the claims journey. Negotiate with third party providers to source products.

    Output: The product was designed, built and launched to the US market on time and under budget, making its first commercial sale to a multinational security company in just under 1 year. The product was quirked by Servify and I transitioned over also in a leadership position .

  • Overview: Create a paper digitisation platform as the progression of the record storage industry.

    Problem: Endless usage of paper documents in every vertical imaginable particularly legal and medical. Digitisation is one thing but digitisation with context was our offering.

    The work: Validate the concept with stakeholders in a range of verticals. Raise staged funding for the platform. Take the product to trade shows and carry out extensive business development.

    Raised 3.73 million in funding to build and sale the product. Sold to a range of document manager, record storage and medical companies. Company was acquired within three years by a record storage company as an add on to their traditional business.

  • Overview: Servify - scale an Indian headquartered US warranty business in America

    Problem: The US warranty industry is dominated by several behemoth billion dollar companies who control the tier one carrier and retail space and more. Their solutions are very traditional - built on legacy platforms with extensive manual support - manual claims adjusting, administration service etc. The Servify platform is the modern equivalent of this industry where massive cost savings can be made leveraging multi-insurer, multiple service networks and respective automation and AI to handle consumer claims etc.

    The work: I was employee number 4 in the US business and had transitioned to Servify as part of their acquisition of my TapSafe product. I led the charge by hiring an exceptional team of business development and service experts in the region. We negotiated a deal with AmTrust and A-rated insure out of New York to underwrite our offerings. We scaled this up massively and subsequently won business with HP, Samsung, Homeserve, Norton and many many more.

  • The brief: Roll out new working practices to support collaboration and inclusion to change resistant teams.

    Root cause: Process lacks prediction and acceptance of review and updates.

    The work: Analysis of players and relationships using systems mapping. Establish ‘Jobs to be done’ to address key moments of truth. Explore operational roles and challenges for rollout.

    Output: Circular rollout process and service blueprint generalised for the use of different business operational teams. Communication plans for information and feedback loops.

  • I started working with an Irish company called Yougetitback.com as a consultant. The company specialised in digital tags for mobile phones to help track them should they be lost or stolen.

    I led the product team to revolutionise the offering to make it more compelling in market. I ran the company rebranding product to align us more to the insurance industry where we all knew the company should be aligned. We renamed and rebranded Inhance Technology. The platform capability expanded to device location, device wipe, device warranty, trade in and much more becoming the device lifecycle management platform.

    I did extensive world tours of the selling to tier one carriers in the US such as Verizon and Sprint. We sold to Asurion and Virgin Mobile in the UK. We did deals all over Europe with a range of insurers and carriers. The highlight of business development for me was working with BestBuy to run the Geek Squad App program for them for all their customers. I spent a lot of time in Bloomington, Minneapolis with the Best Buy team really learning all about how big box bricks and mortar and online retail works.

    The nucleus of the company was a small team in Cork city playing with the ‘big boys’ on the world stage.
